Whitney Design has been designing and managing print projects through every conceivable process for nearly 40 years. In “the olden days”, print was nearly synonymous with graphic design. What else was there? Business paper, brochures, catalogs, reports and signage. Print, print, print.
We learned to prepare print projects when layout wasn’t done in a computer program, but with physical objects. Artboards, acetate overlays, rubylith, and type from the typesetters that had to be carefully calculated through word counts and column inches. The text was delivered a couple of days later in galleys that had to be cut, waxed, aligned and burnished in place. It meant calculating image sizes with a proportion wheel and .
